SISSAI x ARBIO: What we choose to protect

A piece of jewelry can tell you where it comes from. It can also say something about what we choose to preserve.

At Sissai, we have always believed that knowing the origin changes the way we value things.

Knowing where a material comes from, who crafted a piece, or what story lies behind a stone brings us closer to a more conscious way of understanding jewelry. One in which design is not separated from nature, but deeply connected to it.

Today, we want to take that idea a little further, together with ARBIO Peru, an organization dedicated to the conservation of the Amazon rainforest in Madre de Dios. Thus begins an initiative that seeks to turn an everyday choice into a concrete action for nature.

The value behind a choice

A piece of jewelry can accompany us for many years.

That is why we believe its value can also go beyond what we see: toward the materials we choose, the hands that create it, its origin, and the decisions behind it.

At Sissai, upon purchasing certain gold jewelry in our stores, you will be able to contribute to the protection of 1,000 m² of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest for a period of one year, alongside ARBIO.

During that time, your choice will be linked to the conservation of a forest area that is part of one of Peru’s most valuable ecosystems.

A story that begins with a piece of jewelry handmade in Peru and continues in the Amazon that we help keep standing.

It is not about creating something new.

It is about helping something that has existed for hundreds—and in some cases thousands—of years to remain.

Because no individual decision will, on its own, solve the great environmental challenges we face. But every decision can signal what kind of future we want to support.

And we believe that choosing to protect is also a way to start.

Keeping the forest standing

When we talk about sustainability, we often think about recovering, offsetting, or replanting. But there is an action that is just as important: conserving what is still there.

A standing forest is a living ecosystem, interconnected with nature for hundreds or thousands of years.

It is trees, plants, and species that depend on one another. It is water, soil, and biodiversity. These are spaces that hold stories older than our own and whose value cannot be measured solely by what we can extract from them.

ARBIO works in the Las Piedras river basin, in Madre de Dios, taking care of an expanse of Amazon rainforest through ongoing conservation, monitoring, and research.

And it is precisely that perspective that connects with something we deeply believe in at Sissai: nature does not need to be transformed to have value.

Sometimes, protecting simply means allowing something to remain.
